About us
GET FIT, GET MOTIVATED, GET INVOLVED
Gymnastics is becoming an increasingly popular sport, it benefits not only physical health but mental health. Crossways have been training gymnasts for over 16 years and we know that regular exercise through gymnastics improves fitness, self confidence, self disipline and motivation.
Most people are under the impression that to become a gymnast you have to be something special—extra fit, extra flexible and extra skinny. This is not actually the case. At Crossways, we have a place for all sizes, ages and abilities. Our fully equipped gym caters for special needs, recreational, improvers and elite gymnasts, both boys and girls, from 4 years old.
Our gymnasts are encouraged to compete in Regional competitions at all levels and the London Youth Games as well as our annual inter club competition. We also make time for fun, holding social events such as Discos and adventure holidays and Fundraising events like our annual stay awake.
The centre is run by a team of qualified coaches and is affiliated to the London Gymnastics Federation & British Gymnastics and holds the GYMMARK accreditation. We are open every day of the year (except christmas day, boxing day and new years day).
We are a non-profit making organisation and pride ourselves on offering quality gymnastics at affordable prices.
History
The Crossway Gymnastics Centre ( formerly the Crossway Gym Club) was developed from a fund-raising venture by local people to establish an affordable athletic facility for children and young people of all abilities.
Costing over £350,000 to build, the centre was officially opened in July 1991 by Dave Rozzell, the then national coach for special needs Olympics. Over the years Crossway has provided a quality service to the local and surrounding community being a focal point for Thamesmead in particular.
